-Gopher Ball was designed to create an uneven playing field between the large and small market teams, just like in real Major League Baseball. Small market teams are given more tags than the larger market teams to help even the playing field.
-Each team must remain under the assigned salary cap at all times or face disciplinary action from the commissioner’s office. If a trade or FA signing pushes your team over the salary cap, you have a 72 hour grace period to get under the cap again via a trade or waiving salary obligations. Owners known to be exceeding their cap are not allowed to bid on UFA's or RFA's.
-The deadline to announce all franchise, rfa tags, decline player options (assumed accepted if not stated declined on the boards), and post all IFA, international signings, and amateur draft signings from the current year is 12/31 each season.
Franchise Tags
-A Franchise Tag can be used to assume the players real life MLB contract according to www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/
-Franchise tags may be used before a current Gopherball or PP contract expires.
-Franchise tags may be used on an expiring PP contract year only to pick up the first two years of that player's arbitration. The first seasons arbitration will be applied for year 1 and assigned the same salary for year 2 as an option year. If, after the two seasons, a franchise tag is again used, the players salary will be his MLB contract salary. If during year 1 the player signs a contract, the owner has the right to either pick up the option for year 2, or decline the option for year 2 and assign the player with a franchise tag at the end of year 1 and assume the MLB contract in Gopherball.
-If, at the time of assigning a franchise tag, the salary is unknown, when the contract and salary becomes officially announced, the owner has the right to decline the tag (the tag becomes a sunk cost and can not be reused) if announced within 72 hours of media announcements. If declined, the player will become an unrestricted free agent. If the salary is not declined, the salary applies to the teams cap 72 hours after being announced by media outlets.
The salary cap and tier for each team will remain the same until it is deemed that change is necessary.
